Pecha Kucha Night Edmonton #32 Event Promotion
Abstract typography to represent community.
Hosted by Edmonton’s Nextgen, Pecha Kucha Night is a networking event where presenters share their ideas in a unique format of 20 images, each shown for only 20 seconds. The images advance automatically while the presenter is talking, creating a seamless flow between the speaker and their visual presentation. Pecha Kucha Night has quickly become a popular event in Edmonton, and we were happy to have the opportunity to create the graphics for its 32nd iteration.
The Pecha Kucha Night 32 design concept for the promotional materials reflects the theme, which was every day stories in and about Edmonton. The letterforms are made of distinct coloured pieces to represent the diversity of each story and its teller. The illustrations are rough drawings of various Edmonton landmarks to support the theme, and the shapes in each letterform build off one another to represent the idea of collaboration and pieces of a journey. The overall concept and design were applied to social media graphics, newsletters, presentation materials and a variety of other marketing materials used to promote the event.
