A little bit of this, a little bit of that

July Events for Creatives & Designers in Edmonton

We’re constantly looking for events for the creative and design community in Edmonton. Networking and getting involved in the community are essential to staying connected and sane, especially when you work from home. We’ve created a short and sweet list of events happening this month that we wanted to share with you. Be sure to mark your calendar and save the date!

Chopstick Making Workshop - Timbre Cowork

July 4, 2019 | 7:00pm | $75 | Timbre Co-work

What is it? This workshop lets you hang out with friends and learn how to create a pair of chopsticks with your own personal flair.
Why is it awesome? Why NOT learn how to make chopsticks?! Plus, you get to eat with the chopsticks right after you make them!

Whyte Ave Art Walk

June 5-7, 2019 | 10:00am–5:00pm | Free! | Whyte Ave from 101 Street to 108 Street

What is it? The Whyte Ave Art Walk is one of my favourite summer activities in Edmonton. You can start off by getting some ice cream from What’s the Scoop, Made by Marcus (Hopefully they’ll be open by then!) or Yelo’d and then strolling the streets of Whyte to check out all the local artists in the city!
Why is it awesome?
Checking out local art and enjoying sunshine, what more could you want?!

June 13, 2019 | 12:00–5:00pm | $25 ($30 Screenprinting) | SNAP Gallery

What is it? The open studio day at SNAP lets you get creative with like-minded individuals and check out the amazing amenities the space provides!
Why is it awesome? It’s an afternoon to mess around with printing presses and screen-printing machines!

July 17, 2019 | 7:00pm | Free! | Fern’s School of Craft

What is it? Ladies, Wine & Design Edmonton is a monthly meetup meant to empower and bring creative ladies together through conversation, mentorship and championing each others' work.
Why is it awesome? It’s an initiative I started with my colleague and we’re super excited to start bringing Edmonton designers together! Plus: wine, snacks, design… What’s not to love?

BRush CAlligraphy WOrkshop - Poppy Barley

What is it? This evening workshop will give you the opportunity to up your penmanship game by learning the best ways to utilize brush pens.
Why is it awesome? Hand lettered typography will add a unique and crafty pop to any card, letter or poster you design!

June 19, 2019 | 8:30am | Free! | TBD

What is it? Creative Mornings is a world-wide breakfast lecture series for the creative community. The free monthly events feature a short talk and breakfast!
Why is it awesome? Tasty breakfast, delicious coffee, networking, creatives, inspiration… The list goes on. Hands-down one of the best events to attend as a designer.

Drop-in Weaving - Ferns School of Craft

July 21, 2019 | 11:00am–4:30pm | $125 | Sky Studio

What is it? This class is for people who would like to show up and get straight to work. No heavy theory, just sit down and weave fabric to sew into a cushion! Geared towards students with no experience, who want to drop in and test drive a loom without taxing their brains with complicated theory.
Why is it awesome? In a matter of hours you’ll have a lovely cushion cover to take home with you!

That’s all for now! Hopefully we’ll see you at a few of these events. If we missed one, or if you have any upcoming events in the summer that you’d like to share, feel free to connect. Another way to stay in the loop is by joining our YEG Designers Slack Group.

If you want me to keep you informed of the upcoming events we find, feel free to sign up for my newsletter below. Don’t worry: there’s no opt-in promises or fancy worksheets on the other side. Just us, letting you know what’s happening!
